Writing tip:

Use a hyphen to clarify compound adjectives. If two or more words are acting in unison to describe or modify a noun, they should be hyphenated to avoid confusion. Some examples are "full-time job," "ready-to-eat cereal," and "well-tempered clavier."

The Art and Science of Communication

UPDATE: BioWrite.com is once again alive as a separate entity. I have placed all technical communications under the aegis of Pixelogiq, and as a result, I will be changing this site into more of a "Monte portal." I will be removing much of the fluff that is here now and replacing it with solid information about my professional career and my personal interests. If you need technical communication services, please visit www.biowrite.com.

Knowledge and Communication

Knowledge is power, and written communication is the key to that knowledge. While some people view writing as a necessary evil at best, I see it as the basis for human achievement and the conduit through which our technology, our aspirations, and our history are passed from one generation to the next. For me, writing is a passion and an integral part of every field of endeavor.

Creativity and the Analytical Mind

Critical thinking is the greatest ability one can possess; however, effective communication of those thoughts requires artistry and creativity. Writing is a union of art and science—of the creative and the analytical. With that union, the writer has the power to influence thought and behavior on both a rational and an emotional level. That is my goal. Although trained as a scientist, I was born an artist.

Experience and Technical Expertise

After earning my master's degree in microbiology, I spent three years in the lab before setting out on a new adventure. Since that time, I have served as a technical writer, a scientific communications specialist, a web application developer, and a server administrator. In all cases, I served with distinction. I am now two classes away from a second master's degree in information assurance, and I hold credentials in both the life sciences and information technology.
